In preparation for my final assessment, me and my partner decided to meet up after study hours to practice her design. We have decided that I will be the make-up artist for the first week meaning, I will create my partners make-up design the way she has instructed and visualised. Since practicing my partners first makeup design on her, she had changed her ideas so this time I was creating a new look. As normal I cleansed my models face and then applied some satin primer to help moisturise the skin since the base she wanted me to use would be quite drying on the skin. I began by creating the white base, she wanted me to use aqua colour so I began to wet the product with water and applying the base with a foundation. From my previous experience experimenting with white base I don't really enjoy working with the product and find it difficult as It never sets, applies or blends in a way I am happy with. Whilst applying the white colour to the face with my foundation brush I decided to use my kabuki brush and blend the product into the skin after every application of the base so that the product would set like a foundation making the base even. I found that this technique worked, although next time I think I may try applying the product directly onto my partners skin with just my kabuki brush, as creating the base with my technique was very time consuming which isn't practical from the assessment and also because Sue suggested I apply foundation in a previous make-up session with the same method and it worked really well.
After creating the base I applied some translucent powder to help set the base and make sure the face isn't tacky before applying the eye products. Moving onto the brows, I applied a cream gold eyeshadow to my partners hairs as she wanted to enhance the brows with a gold colour instead of blocking them out, after applying this I added a gold glitter eyeliner she brought for me to use to make the brows glitter. Once I applied both products to the brush I brushed out her eyebrow hairs to make her brows appear slightly messy, brushing the hairs upwards. I then began creating the eye design, she wanted using a variation of pinks and red tones from the kryolan eyeshadow palette forming a triangular shape underneath the eye area to the sides of her face. After applying the colours I blended them out with my blusher blush to create a more softer ombre finish to the shadows. I then applied gold glitter liner onto the lower lash line following onto the top of the shadow shape I created to the sides of her face, as my partner wanted to use orange flash lashes in her final look I did not apply any product to her lashes in this look. Before moving onto the lips I used the same colours used for under her eyes to contour her forehead very lightly with my blusher blush creating a soft shadow effect. My partner wanted a overdrawn heart shape top lip and pouty bottom but did not want it to cover the whole lip, so focusing on the middle of the lips I created the shape. I struggled to create her desired lip colour from her makeup design, as the lip colours in our makeup kit palette are limited so I created a practice colour for just that day as she said she would bring in a different colour for the assessment. She wanted the shape of the lips blended out lightly at the sides and then the outer corners of the lips to be covered in gold glitter.
After finishing this look I felt confident that I would be able to create my partners design comfortably and also quickly. My partner seemed pleased with what I had done and the techniques I had used but said she would re consider some features of her design as she now had a better idea of how it would look. She wanted to the eyeshadow colours to be more defined, separated and blended underneath the eye area and a different lip colour, other then that she was happy with what I had done.
