Before performing any make-up application and even skincare treatments, it is vital that you check your client for contraindications. Contraindications are anything that may restrict or prevent you from applying make-up to to your client. In my practical lesson with Sue she advises that you always ask your client wether they are wearing contact lenses or have any allergies, these too are also very important questions to ask before applying any make-up. The importance of checking for contraindications on your client is essential as it prevents spreading of a contagious or infection contraindication and it can also make something worse for your client, e.g. sensitive/watery eyes or cuts and bruises.

Ways to check for any contraindications would be by observing your clients skin and seeing if there is anything irritable on their skin. Also you should ask your client by doing a quick consolation, asking about any allergies, skin problems that may have or recently had. Thorough cleaning of your make-up brushes any other tools you may use that are in contact with your client is very important, as this also helps prevent future contraindications from spreading onto your next client.
Sue also provided us with consultation sheets in our practical session to use and photocopy in the future for our clients.
